RefWorks Legacy: Himmelfarb Library catalog

A quick introduction to using RefWorks including importing from various databases.

Instructions

  1. Log into RefWorks and move the mouse over Search on the menu at the top.

  2. Select Online Catalog or Database.

  3. Change the database using the drop down list from PubMed to George Washington University, Himmelfarb Library.

  4. Type the title of the book you want the bibliographic record for.

  5. This will open a new window and import several entries from the catalog - you must select one record to import to RefWorks by checking the box to the left of the record.  You may see several similar records for a book title because there may be several editions of that book in the Himmelfarb Library catalog.  If you are unsure which is the current edition look at the year on the Source: line and if necessary, click View on the right to see the full bibliographic record and check the edition, then click Back to Reference List to go back to the results.  When you find the record you want, check the box to the left of the record.

  6. Scroll up and where it says Import to Folder, click the drop down list and select the folder you want to import the record into, or click Import.

  7. If you did not choose a folder to file the record into, you will need to go back to the original RefWorks window in your internet browser, click View Last Imported Folder, check the box to the left of the record, and from the 'Put in Folder' drop down list choose the folder you want to refile the record into. Click OK to acknowledge the pop up confirmation message.
